Antique Corner Chair Update

Boy have I had this chair for a very long time.  I posted it on my Facebook page over the summer asking if I should make it over and I got over two dozen responses.  You can read them all here!  Oh! And if you’d also like to follow me on Facebook too, that would be a bonus. J I struggled on what to do with this antique chair update.  That is, should I leave it alone or make it over?

Here it is BEFORE.

Pretty, right? Yes, but not EXACTLY my style.  You see, one of my best friends gave it to me.  I looked it up and I believe it is actually a real antique and could be worth a few hundred dollars.  With that said, I finally decided, not to harm the original wood, and just update the fabric.

I bought this new fabric.  It’s a little more modern in black and gold…. Still a slight oriental in style, but matched my décor a little better.

Even though I think it’s been reupholstered from the original, I decided to leave the old fabric on just in case.

I stapled the new fabric over it so that it can easily be removed…again…just in case.

I like it!  It’s not a drastic change but it does go much better with the rest of my living room.  Now I can keep it, not worry about compromising the integrity of it, and think of my friend every time I look at it.

  2. I have a chair exactly like the on the “Antique Corner Chair Update” page. Do you know what it is worth?

    1. I’m not sure, Alan. I’ve tried to look it up myself. As Don mentioned above, it might be a replica or reproduction. I have been too lazy to go get it appraised. Sorry I’m not much help!
