Sun Shaped Key Lime Garnish How to

Sun Shaped Key Lime Garnish How to

Ah! There is nothing more relaxing to me than spending summer vacation on the beach. OK, well, maybe there is ONE thing more relaxing. That would be spending summer vacation on the beach with a margarita in hand. Lucky me; I had the privilege of spending four days and three nights at the gorgeous Villa del Palmar at The Islands of Loreto resort and spa. I can’t wait to tell you about it all including hiking, paddle boarding, the amazing food and staff, my incredible private suite, and my clam diving excursion. But first, I just wanted to share a little Sun Shaped Key Lime Garnish How to. My friend Sharon and I had a special tutorial by our bartender, Jorge, on the beach when he made us some tasty and refreshing cucumber margaritas with a chili lime rim.

You only need three things:

  • Sharp Knife
  • Key Lime
  • Cutting Board

OK, well you also need a margarita of course! First, slice the end off of the key lime and discard.

Sun Lime Garnish How to

Cut a thin slice saving the rest of the lime for later and follow the lines of the flesh and cut, stopping at the inside of the rind.

Sun Key Lime Garnish How to

Invert the ring as shown.

Margarita Sun Lime Garnish

Margarita Sun Lime Garnish How to

Use the remaining part of the key lime, and maneuver the ring onto the edge of the lime forming a sun.

Sun Key Lime Garnish Tutorial

Lay the sun flat onto the cutting board and cut a slit into the rounded end.

Sun Lime Garnish Tutorial

If desired, groom the sun with your knife to shape the perfect sun.

How to Make a Sun Shaped Lime Garnish

Place it on the edge of a salted margarita glass using the slit on the body of the lime.

Isn’t it adorable? It was such a beautiful and thoughtful touch to help make our sun bathing THAT much more special. Jorge went over and above for us, especially taking the extra time to show us how to make this unique margarita garnish.

Lychee Martini Recipe

by Dinah Wulf

Lychee Martini Recipe

A few years ago, I was at a fancy bar in Newport Beach and I saw a Lychee Martini on the drink menu and ordered it immediately. It was fantastic! Since then, I always order one if there is one available. With my Mom visiting, I thought she would enjoy trying one so I attempted to make one at home and came up with a SUPER simple Lychee Martini Recipe.

I have grown up eating lychee fruit ever since I can remember.  If you are unfamiliar with it, it’s an exotic tropical fruit cultivated in Asia, Australia, and Africa. They are about the size of a large walnut and have a red spiky exterior.  When you peel the fruit, the inside is a white fleshy pulp and it’s sweet and delicious!  You only need four ingredients to make the martini.

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 oz. Vodka
  • Splash Simple Syrup
  • 1.5 c. Lychee juice
  • Lychee fruit

Materials:

  • Martini Shaker
  • Ice
  • Martini Glass
  • Toothpick

Instructions:

Place the Vodka, Simple Syrup and Lychee juice in a martini shaker filled with ice. Shake it vigorously and pour into a martini glass. Garnish it with the Lychee fruit.

You can buy the fruit and juice at an ethnic or natural foods store. Many Asian markets sell them fresh. If you cannot find the fruit, you can also buy it in a can.  This martini is perfect for the warm weather season and a fun and interesting drink to serve at parties. They are a great source of Vitamin C as well! That’s my kind of martini!

Jelly Bean Martini Recipe

Today, my friend and cocktail expert, David Edessa is sharing a sweet and tasty Jelly Bean Martini Recipe.

Written by: David Edessa

Ingredients:

  • 3 oz. Jelly Bean Infused Vodka (recipe below)
  • 1 oz. Triple Sec
  • ½ oz. Sparkling Wine Brut
  • 1 lemon wedge
  • Cocktail Shaker

Glass Preparation:

Add sugar along the rim of the martini glass. To do this, place blue curacao (blue), grenadine (red), or lime juice (white) on a flat plate (depending on the color of the rim you wish to create) then dip the glass into the liquid to wet the rim. Place powdered sugar on a flat plate or surface then rim the wet rim glass into sugar and coat the rim. Place rimmed prepared martini glasses in the freezer to chill.

Instructions:

Put all liquid ingredients and squeeze a lemon wedge into a cocktail shaker half filled with ice and shake vigorously and strain into chilled prepped martini glasses. Float on top of glass the sparkling wine.

jelly-bean-martini-recipe

Jelly Bean Infusion Instructions:

Ingredients:

  • 750ml bottle of vodka or rhum
  • 16 oz. of jelly beans
  • Glass jar
  • Fine mesh sieve

To create jelly bean-infused vodka, place 750mL bottle of vodka and 16 oz. of jelly beans in a glass jar for about 48 hours and shake throughout the day. Strain using a fine mesh sieve. Use one color of jelly beans for best results. Also, a great alternative to vodka is rhum. For a different flavor you can try vanilla flavored vodka or rhum.

Vodka or Rum Gummy Bears Recipe

by Dinah Wulf

rum-gummy-bears-recipe

Today I am excited to share a party cocktail recipe, Vodka or Rum Gummy Bears Recipe, developed by David Edessa.  These are great additions for adult parties for graduation, spring break, or summer barbecues to add a fun and fruity twist to the bar selection.

Written By David Edessa:

Ingredients:

  • 1 (750 ml) bottle Banana Vodka
  • 48 oz. Bag Gummy Bears
  • 8 oz. White Cranberry Juice

Instructions:

Fill a glass or ceramic container (container with a lid is ideal) about halfway with gummy bears. Then fill the container with vodka and white cranberry juice till the top of the gummy bears. The ratio of vodka to juice is 3:1. Allow the gummies to swim in the vodka for 24 hours in the refrigerator.  If you leave them in the vodka for more than 24 hours, they will get slimy and bloated, so don’t make them too ahead of time. Serve with tooth picks. If you have liquid left behind from the soaking, you have great tasting infused vodka….Drunken Gummy Martinis!!! Or Drunken Gummy Bear Snow Cones (my favorite).

vodka-gummy-bears-recipe

Tips:

  • The soaking time may vary due to the type of candy.
  • If you have stale gummy bears, they actually work great!
  • You can use rhum if you prefer.
  • You can use other gummy candies.

Be careful when eating these adult vodka soaked candies. It’s very difficult to estimate how much alcohol one consumes per gummy bear.

The first batch I made a mistake by not storing the batch in the refrigerator. Also, I had them soaking for three days where it started to dissolve.

5 Tasty Holiday Cocktail Recipes

With the holidays just right around the corner, I thought I’d put together 5 Tasty Holiday Cocktail Recipes.  These are all original recipes written and concocted by David Edessa.  For all of David’s fun cocktail party recipes check out his Cocktail Corner!

5 Tasty Holiday Cocktail Recipes

Apple Cranberry Cider

Ingredients:

  • 2 quarts (8 cups) Apple juice
  • 2 cups cranberry juice
  • ½ cup Pure Maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon Whole Nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon Whole Cloves
  • 1 teaspoon Fresh Ginger
  • 3 Cinnamon sticks

Instructions:

Pour juice into a tall pot with a lid and turn on heat to high. Prepare spices and add to pot. When pot reaches a boil, turn to the lowest setting. Let simmer about 15 minutes. Strain the cider through a fine sieve onto a second pot. Return cider to heat source or pour into a crock pot to keep warm. Ladle into mugs and enjoy.

Coquito (Puerto Rico’s Christmas spiked eggnog)

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of Coconut Cream
  • 1 cup Sweetened Condensed Milk
  • 1 cup Evaporated Milk
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 1 cup Dark Rhum
  • 1 cup Spiced Rhum
  • 1 cup of Water
  • 4 Egg Yolks, well beaten
  • 2 tablespoons Grand Marnier or other orange-flavored liqueur
  • Pinch of Salt
  • 3 Cinnamon Sticks
  • Freshly grated nutmeg for garnish

Instructions:

Boil the water and the cinnamon sticks, then allow to cool to room temperature (don’t forget to remove cinnamon sticks). In a blender or food processor combine the coconut cream, evaporated & condensed milk, salt, egg yolks and vanilla, and blend at high speed for 30 seconds, or until the mixture is smooth. Add the dark rhum, spiced rhum, orange liqueur, and cinnamon water; blend for a few seconds longer until ingredients have blended completely. You need to add the water because it will get thicker later in the refrigerator. This is also the best time to taste and add more rhum (rum) if you wish to have a stronger batch. Pour the coqui into a glass container, preferable bottles (easier to pour into glasses at time of service). Refrigerate the coqui for 4-6 hours, or until it is thoroughly chilled. Remove from refrigerator about 15-20 minutes (if too thick) before serving, then shake bottle well. To serve, pour the Coquito into a chilled parfait or punch glasses and sprinkle the top lightly with nutmeg. A pinch martini or short juice glasses will do.

Pumpkin Maple Toddy

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz. Crown Royal Maple Finish Whiskey
  • ½ oz. Fresh Lemon Juice
  • ½ tsp. Organic Honey
  • 1 tsp. Pumpkin Butter (recipe below)
  • 2 dashes Angostura Bitters
  • 1 strip Lemon Peel
  • 1 Cinnamon Stick
  • Hot Water

Instructions:

Pour the honey, boiling water, and whiskey into a mug. Put in a slice of lemon peel. Let the mixture stand for 5 minutes so the flavors can mingle. Garnish with cinnamon stick.

White Pumpkin Cocktail

Ingredients:

  • 1¼ oz. Vanilla Rhum
  • ¾ oz. White Crème de Cacao liqueur
  • 1½ oz. Pumpkin Butter
  • ½ oz. 2% Whole Organic Milk

Instructions:

In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine rhum, pumpkin butter, liqueur and milk. Shake well and pour all contents including the ice in a tall mug.

Salted Butter Pecan Martini

Ingredients:

  • 1 oz. Van Gogh Vanilla Vodka ( your favorite brand will due in a Vanilla Vodka)
  • ¾ oz. Butterscotch Schnapps
  • ¾ oz. Frangelico Liqueur
  • ½ oz. Baileys Caramel
  • 1 oz. Heavy Cream
  • Torani Salted Caramel syrup

Glass Prep Instructions:

Place martini glass in freezer for 15 minutes to half an hour. Pour the caramel syrup into a shallow plate and in another plate crushed candied pecans. Then, dip the rim of a chilled martini glass into the plate with the caramel syrup and then dip the chilled glass into the plate with the crushed candied pecans. When done place prepped glass on parchment paper for easy release and place in freezer until ready to use.

Infused Tequila and Cocktail ideas for Cinco de Mayo

by Dinah Wulf

Written By David Edessa

Jalapeno Pineapple Collage

Infused tequila is very simple to make and needs just a few ingredients.   Today I want to share how to make a roasted pineapple and jalapeno tequila recipe in honor of Cinco de Mayo.  Then, I will share four cocktail recipes that include your freshly made infused tequila!  These recipes are: 1) Roasted Pineapple Margarita, 2) Blood Orange Margarita, 3) Strawberry Jalapeño Margarita, and 4) Mango Jalapeño Margarita.  These fruit inspired cocktail recipes are perfect for your Cinco de Mayo party! Enjoy!

How to Make Infused Tequila: Roasted Pineapple & Jalapeño Tequila recipe

Ingredients:

  • 750 ml Reposado Tequila
  • 3-5 jalapeños, washed and whole
  • 6-8 Fresh Pineapple (½-¾ inch thick spears)
  • 1 clean jar

Instructions:

Peel and slice the pineapple in spears about ½-inch thick or thicker. Don’t discard the core; just slice it along with the rest of the pineapple.

Grill the whole peppers and pineapple spears. Over medium heat, lay the peppers and pineapple directly on the grates. Grill until peppers have grill marks and are beginning to soften, taking care not to overly char them. Keep pineapple on grill until they’re nice and brown. Flip both the peppers and pineapple over to grill the other side. Grill another few minutes and remove from grill and into a clean glass container.

When cool, remove the top of the stem part from the pepper. Slice the pepper in half. Place the pineapple spears and jalapeños into the jar. Pour the tequila over the top and cover. Let rest for two weeks in the refrigerator. After the first remove the peppers and discard. I would avoid shaking mix while it sits.

If you prefer less heat, remove the seeds from peppers before adding into the jar. Also, there is no need to spend too much on your tequila choice. I used a reposado, the vanilla and cinnamon notes was what I was looking to add. However, silver tequila will work wonderfully.

  • 2 oz. Rye or Bourbon Whiskey
  • ¼ oz. simple syrup
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • Garnish: Lemon peel

Pour whiskey, syrup, and bitters into a cracked-ice-filled old-fashioned glass and stir 10 to 15 times. Twist a wide lemon peel over the top and drop into the drink.

This is a recipe that I use currently that I find people to really enjoy…

Mediterranean Old Fashion recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1¼ oz. Rye Whiskey
  • ½ oz. East India Solera Sherry
  • 2 dashes Blood Orange bitters
  • Garnish: Orange peel

Instructions:

First item is to build your drink in an old fashion glass. Combine all ingredients into the glass without ice.  Twist a wide orange peel over the top and drop into the drink. Add three large ice cubes and stir glass with a bar spoon in a circular motion 10 to 15 times. The stirring will let the ice dilute whiskey slightly without adding water and making a watery mess.

Rhum Apple Cranberry Cider Recipe

Rhum Apple-Cranberry Cider Recipe

Happy New Year…. It’s time to get use to writing the year 2013. Where did the time go?  I hope it’s been a good year for everyone and it continues into the New Year…. It’s been a cold December and it has not warmed up yet in January. It’s time to enjoy a glass of spiked cider.  The recipe below can be enjoyed as a nonalcoholic beverage. Here is my Rhum Apple Cranberry Cider Recipe.

Apple Cranberry Cider Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 2 quarts (8 cups) Apple juice
  • 2 cups cranberry juice
  • ½ cup Pure Maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon Whole Nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon Whole Cloves
  • 1 teaspoon Fresh Ginger
  • 3 Cinnamon sticks

Instructions:

Pour juice into a tall pot with a lid and turn on heat to high. Prepare spices and add to pot. When pot reaches a boil, turn to the lowest setting. Let simmer about 15 minutes. Strain the cider through a fine sieve onto a second pot. Return cider to heat source or pour into a crock pot to keep warm. Ladle into mugs and enjoy.

When picking out apple juice, read the label and try to get juice without added sugar – often called “apple cider” instead of “apple juice” by some companies. Unfiltered juice (which looks a little foggy) is our favorite when we can find it.

Puerto Rico’s Eggnog Coquito Punch Recipe

by Dinah Wulf

coquito

If you would like to try something different from the Christmas eggnog that you prepare every year; I suggest you try the Coquito. Puerto Rico’s eggnog and it is delicious. Traditionally it is served in Puerto Rico during Christmas, New Year and The Three Kings Day. However, it’s also a great celebration drink for any occasion. Here is Puerto Rico’s Eggnog Coquito Punch Recipe.

Coquito Recipe (Puerto Rico’s Christmas spiked eggnog):

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of Coconut Cream
  • 1 cup Sweetened Condensed Milk
  • 1 cup Evaporated Milk
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 1 cup Dark Rhum
  • 1 cup Spiced Rhum
  • 1 cup of Water
  • 4 Egg Yolks, well beaten
  • 2 tablespoons Grand Marnier or other orange-flavored liqueur
  • Pinch of Salt
  • 3 Cinnamon Sticks
  • Freshly grated nutmeg for garnish.

In a pinch martini or short juice glasses will do :)

Whenever using an electric blender or food processor always check the manufacture manual to verify safety precautions and or you can crush ice safely when using ice or any hard food substance.
