Tea Party Themed Candy Station

by Dinah Wulf

Tea Party Candy Station

I just had to share this tea party themed candy station with you today.  The party is not until next week but I messed up some dates! Let me explain… I have no idea how I let myself get mixed up but my daughter’s very  first dance recital and my friend’s first baby shower is on the same day! Yikes! I am responsible for ALL the decorations including this candy station for favors so I had to make it work!

Luckily my daughter’s dance recital is in the morning and the shower is at noon, so if I time it right, I should be able to pull off both.  The only thing is, is that I will have no time to decorate for the shower! SO what I did was set up all the decorations, took pictures, packed and labeled all the boxes with photo instructions for my co-hosts to set up without me! Bah! I freaked out for three days… but now I think I’m OK…

ANYWAY, here is the candy station filled with awesome candy provided by SweetWorks, Inc. I filled some apothecary jars with gumballs and colorful Sixlets candies. The party theme is a Mad hatter Tea Party.

Tea Party Candy Favor Station

I won this fun “Eat” sign from the blog conference, Elevate, that I attended last year and thought it fit perfectly.

Alice in Wonderland Tea Party Candy Favors

I found some pretty teacups at Goodwill and filled them with Ovation dark chocolate covered mint sticks. I also filled some teacups with pressed heart candies.  By the way, I did a fun Sharpie craft with these teacups and colored the handles gold {Sharpie Teacup tutorial}. I added small touches like little silver spoons and layered plates.

I also filled some pretty plastic vases I got with chocolate pink and blue foiled hearts and used two more for favor bags and scoops.

Soooo, I have another whole story about rearranging the centerpieces but I’ll save that one for tomorrow! In the meantime, here are the other Alice in Wonderland Mad Hatter Tea Party posts for this party.

Summertime Ice Cream Party DIY Ideas

by Dinah Wulf

Summertime Ice Cream Theme Party

My best friend from Simply Creative Ways and I threw a fun end of school year ice cream party for the kids and parents in their preschool class. It was simple, no stress, and casual… a great way for both the parents to connect and the kids to play together outside of school.  I made these ice cream invitations for the party and passed them out a week before school let out.

DIY Summer Ice Cream Themed Invitations

I made some fun ice cream cone banners out of real sugar cones and ice cream cones and water balloons (check out the tutorial).

We even used two of them as table centerpieces, using tape on the bottoms to keep them upright.

Jenny had a great idea of using lanterns as ice cream, and made paper cones which we hot glued on.

What’s an ice cream party without an ice cream bar? I made a simple ice cream parlor sign the night before.

Jenny had the ingenious idea of repurposing a candle holder into a waffle cone holder. She punched holes in cardstock, and hot glued it to the candle holder. The cones fit right in and we filled them with ice cream toppings.

We also had chocolate, strawberry, and caramel syrups available, and I made little “happy summer” party favors for the kids to take home.

It was such a fun time for both the parents and adults.  Since our kids will probably remain in school together for several years, we exchanged emails and phone numbers as well.

5 Tips to Make Your Table Naturally Amazing

by Dinah Wulf

Make Your Table Naturally Amazing (6)

This post, 5 Tips to Make Your Table Naturally Amazing, was brought to you by the makers of French’s Yellow Mustard. I received compensation to write this post through the French’s Naturally Amazing Program … all opinions expressed are my own.

Summer is the best time to enjoy nature and entertain both outside, and inside. Entertaining for friends and family is one of my favorite things to do. I thought I’d share a few entertaining tips with you today.

Tip #1: Support Local Farmers. In preparation, I love going to the local Farmer’s Market to buy locally grown farm fresh fruits and vegetables with the family. This last weekend I grabbed some strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, cherries, and watermelon to serve as appetizers for a small gathering I had.

Make Your Table Naturally Amazing (4)

Tip: #2: Serve appetizers that do not require utensils. I made, one of our favorites deviled eggs with vinegar, light mayonnaise, and a little bit of salt, pepper, and onion powder, and of course French’s mustard.

Make Your Table Naturally Amazing (3)

Make Your Table Naturally Amazing

French’s 100% natural yellow mustard starts with farm-grown, whole mustard seeds. Yellow mustards may look the same on the outside, but it’s what’s on the inside that counts. Take a look inside French’s and you’ll discover 100% delicious, 100% natural mustard.

Tip #3: Use the best naturally amazing ingredients. Crafted with only the highest quality, stone ground, #1 grade, whole mustard seeds and select herbs and spices (including turmeric), French’s is 100% natural, gluten free and kosher … and it has 0 calories!!! Unlike some mustards, there’s nothing artificial. No preservatives, fillers or thickeners. Naturally amazing, French’s is the preferred mustard for your favorite summer foods. From flavorful marinades to tangy salad dressings, French’s yellow mustard brings wholesome goodness and fresh taste to your table.

Make Your Table Naturally Amazing (7)

Tip #4: Decorate with fresh flowers. I also picked fresh flowers from my yard and placed them at each table setting.  I love the idea of creating a personal bouquet for each guest and then when it’s time to eat, I place the bouquets around the patio for extra decoration.

Make Your Table Naturally Amazing (2)

Tip #5: During the summertime, keep your table bright and cheery. I chose colorful placemats, napkins, and accessories to brighten up the table.

Repurposed Dynamite Stick Patriotic Party Favors (5)

Thank you to SweetWorks, Inc., for sponsoring the candy for this post, Repurposed Dynamite Stick Patriotic Party Favors.

If you know me, you know that I work out often. When I do, I bring bottled water with a vitamin B12 energy powder mixed in. The powder comes in these cute little cases that I have been saving because I’m a Craft Hoarder (that’s right…I admit it!). They come in several colors and I have a ton of them because I buy them at Costco! Aren’t they cool?

Repurposed Dynamite Stick Patriotic Party Favors (2)

When I got these cute little red, white, and blue Sweet Shapes stars from SweetWorks, Inc., I thought I’d make some candy filled patriotic party favors that look like little dynamite sticks with my containers. If you don’t have these containers, you can make larger favors with toilet paper rolls.

Repurposed Dynamite Stick Patriotic Party Favors (1)

Materials:

  • Plastic Energy Powder Containers (or something similar)
  • SweetWorks Sweet Shapes Candies
  • FREE “Have a Blast” Printable
  • Decorative Paper
  • Black Cardstock
  • Scissors
  • Double-Sided Tape
  • Tape

I made sure each container was clean and dry and filled them with the red, white, and blue, star pressed candies.

Repurposed Dynamite Stick Patriotic Party Favors (3)

Next, I wrapped each container in patterned decorative paper and secured it with double-sided tape.

Repurposed Dynamite Stick Patriotic Party Favors (4)

I taped a piece of twine to one of the containers, and then bound three containers together with a black piece of cardstock. I also printed and added a little tag that says “Have a Blast!”

These little favors are great for the Fourth, Memorial Day, end of the school year, or any birthday party. In case you missed them, check out some of my other patriotic craft and party ideas!

by Dinah Wulf

A List of 2 Dozen Candy Sayings

My husband LOVES candy and sweets.  A couple years ago, he severed his Achilles tendon playing soccer and needless to say, he was on crutches for a while. He hated it! I wanted to surprise him with a candy bar with a clever saying every day when he opened his briefcase just to cheer him up a little. We kept it up for over a month and I just wanted to re-post an updated list of Two Dozen Candy Sayings since Valentine’s Day is just around the corner.

  1. Mini Chips Ahoy Cookies – For our own special ‘COOKIE’ monster!
  2. Butterfinger – We love you so much “BUTTERFINGERS” won’t count that high!
  3. Kit Kat – We don’t ever want a break from you!
  4. Snickers – We love how you make us laugh and “SNICKER”!

  9. Peanut Butter M&M’s – Daddy, we think you’re Magnificent and Marvelous!
  10. Hazelnut Chocolate Bar – We love you so much it’s “NUTS”!
  11. Milky Way – We think you are out of this world!

Briefcase Candy Notes For Dad

by Dinah Wulf

briefcase-candy-notes

I know Valentine’s Day is coming up, but I don’t think you need a holiday or special occasion to send sweet and thoughtful notes to a loved one.  I think the best thing is sending them little surprises when they least expect it. My husband LOVES candy. When he hurt his foot a while back, we would put a candy bar in his briefcase with a little candy saying. For example, we put a Butterfinger candy bar with a tag that said, “We love you so much BUTTERFINGERS can’t count that high!” For a full list of fun candy sayings check out my Sweet Gift Idea post. Anyway, I kept it up five days a week for over a month! I wanted to get back to it, maybe do it once a week, so we made some new briefcase candy notes for Daddy.

Here’s what we used:

  • Candy Bars
  • Paper Scraps
  • Paper Cutter
  • Craft Punches
  • Craft cut out letters
  • Double-sided tape
  • Glue stick

First we cut out some letters. You can always hand write the notes or print them on your computer.  You can even cut words out of old books or magazines.

briefcase-candy-notes-for-dad (1)

We covered our candy in colorful paper from our paper scraps bin.

briefcase-candy-notes-for-dad

One by one we glued on our message with a glue stick.

Now we have to hide them somewhere so he won’t see them. Oh! And we have to remember to slip them in his briefcase! Hope you like our briefcase candy notes! Don’t forget to check out those candy sayings too. There are some good ones!

Valentine Baked Goods Gift Ideas and Giveaway

by Dinah Wulf

This post, Valentine Baked Goods Gift Ideas is sponsored by Rich Products for the Bakery Because. Give the Gift of Deliciousness. campaign.

bakery-because-sweetness-gifted (1)

As you may or may not know, I am not confident in my cooking or baking skills. Sure, I make dinner for my little family every night, and I’ve even pulled off a few successful Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner parties before. But know you know that this is why I don’t post any of my own recipes!

I do, however love eating and giving baked goods gifts. I thoroughly enjoy visiting the bakery in my local grocery store and all the tasty and tempting cookies, cakes, and cupcakes. There is always a great variety and I’m never disappointed. For this Valentine’s Day, I thought it be fun to buy some sweet treats from my bakery and get creative with the packaging to give away as gifts to my friends, Mia’s teachers, and a couple neighbors. Here is what I came up with.

Oh and don’t forget to stick around for the GIVEAWAY below!

I made this Recycled Juice Carton Treat Box myself.  You can view the full step by step tutorial {HERE}. You can also use a milk carton as well.  I simply cut, measured, and glued on paper party straws to embellish it.  I filled it heart shaped sugar cookies I got from the bakery.

bakery-because-sweetness-gifted

Washi tape is a simple way to embellish a gift. I used it on my recycled carton treat box as well as added it to heart shaped tin as well.

bakery-because-sweetness-gifted (3)

If you don’t want to make your own treat box for your bakery goodies, the dollar bins and several retailers have great options.  I bought these two for one dollar each! I am going to add a pretty “Happy Valentine’s Day” tag and ribbon to the handles.

bakery-because-sweetness-gifted (2)

As you can see there are several fun, inexpensive, creative ways to gift some sweetness on not just Valentine’s Day but any holiday or special occasion! Visit your local grocer’s bakery to find easy and delicious treats that you can personalize and give as gifts on Valentine’s Day and every day. Now for the giveaway…

Recycled Carton and Straw Treat Box

by Dinah Wulf

recycled-carton-valentine-treat-boxes

Being a craft hoarder at heart, I went to throw away this juice carton and in mid throw I stopped myself. I decided to myself up to the challenge and upcycle it. I stared at it for a bit and stared some more. After a few minutes knowing that Valentine’s Day is right around the corner I willed myself into a trash to treasure making a Recycled Carton and Straw Treat Box.

Materials:

  • Clean milk or juice carton
  • Sharp craft knife
  • Straight edge
  • Pencil
  • Straws (the pretty paper kind!)
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue and glue gun
  • Large plastic treat bag
  • Ribbon
  • Washi tape

Here’s the juice container that taunted me.

recycled-carton (1)

I cut it in half by measuring and marking with a pencil and ruler and cutting with a craft knife.  I measured about three inches from the bottom. I washed and dried my new box… oh and the craft knife and ruler too because they got sticky (apparently I didn’t rinse out the carton well enough).

recycled-carton

The straws are a little over seven inches, so I ended up cutting them into three and a half inch pieces. To make it easy, I used the ruler each time and cut.

upcycled-straws

One by one I hot glued each straw to the carton. You can kind-of-sort-of create a pattern by arranging the stripes as you go. Make sure you know which side you want to show before you add the hot glue since it dries so quickly.

upcycled-straws (1)

A large treat bag fits perfectly over the treat box. I filled it with Valentine’s day heart shaped cookies from my bakery (no I didn’t make them!). I closed the top with a little bit of fun patterned washi tape and tied a pink ribbon around the outside of the plastic bag.

recycled-carton-valentine-treat-boxes (1)

There you have it! Instant treat box! You can use these for any holiday or occasion and switch up the straw colors. I thought that this one would be cute for Christmas as well.

Golf Themed Baby Shower

by Dinah Wulf

This time last year I helped one of my best friends with her wine tasting bridal shower.  Almost exactly one year later, I helped co-host her baby shower!  This baby shower, I’d have to say, was one of the most fun that I have helped decorate for to date.  The Mommy-to-be requested a co-ed golf themed baby shower and that’s what we gave her!

Let’s start with the ambiance!  It was located at a family member’s house.  Bushes meticulously trimmed and full of flowers, this back yard was the perfect setting.  We rented three round tables with tan linen and used black chairs.  The food was set up under the covered patio, and the bar was full with wine, a margarita machine, and a fully stocked bar.

For the centerpieces, I used a plastic green “putting green” from my daughter’s butterfly garden party and filled ribbon trimmed apothecary jars with golf balls and golf tees.  On my computer I made golf balls with the couple’s last name as the brand of the ball.  I also cut and arranged fresh white flowers in recycled jars for some of the guests to take home.  I made golf themed signs and made a flag to adorn the flower arrangement with.

The food was done by the Mommy-to-be’s family.  They made the most adorable fruit basket out of a watermelon to look like a baby in a carriage complete with a pacifier!  We served delicious Mexican food, fresh fruit and vegetables, several dips, and cheese and crackers.  For dessert we have cupcakes and three kinds of pie.

For the favors, I embellished small white boxes and filled them with Ghirardelli sea salt chocolates.  I made a diaper cake and diaper cupcakes as the centerpiece.  With ribbon and circle punch, I made a “congrats” sign.

Hope you enjoyed this golf themed baby shower!  It was a blast!
