Since we moved into our new home last December, I have slowly been making changes to our home décor. In particular, I wanted to make a console table for our family room. I would call our décor style, industrial chic. I like a mix of masculine and feminine that suits both my husband and me. With this in mind, I went to Simplified Building to get a table frame kit. Here is how I made this DIY Industrial Console Table.

The table frame kit comes in four styles, basic, adjustable height, rugged, and Z-frame.  I chose the basic frame. On the Simplified Building website, you can order custom sizes, including the table top dimensions, the desired height, and the desired footing. The kit also comes with an Allen key. Depending on the type of table top you choose, you may also need a screw driver, hammer, crescent wrench, level, and wood screws.

We assembled the table according to the diagram that was provided as well. It was so quick and easy, and the only tool we needed to create the base was the Allen wrench that was provided.

I wanted to repurpose a salvaged piece for the table top. My original thought was to find an old wooden door; perhaps one that I could stain. On my treasure hunt, however I had no luck finding a door I liked. I also tried some old wooden shutters, but I could not find the correct size.  After a few empty handed trips to some salvage donation stores, I ended up ordering a glass table top instead. My husband and I thought of turning the table upside down. This way, you can see the width pipe through the top. So, in these photos you will see that the flanges were used as the footing.

We also placed some clear plastic desk buttons in between the piping and the glass top for protection. You can barely see them.

Although it didn’t go as planned, I loved the way it turned out. As you can see I mixed the hardness of the table with some feminine glass apothecary jars and pillows and throw as accent pieces. The table looks fabulous in our front entryway and can be used as a bar or buffet when we entertain in our family room. I hope you like it!

  1. What a beautiful piece of furniture you have created Dinah! The industrial table looks great next to that gorgeous rustic piece of art/mirror. At the same, time it doesn’t compete with it because you ‘ve added the glass top. Very smart! I would like to invite you to a new link party I’m hosting over at Sweet Inspiration.

  2. Love it. I’m planning on making a mini table for our front door area using metal pipes. I’m crossing my fingers that it comes out. Thanks for sharing this on Merry Monday. Pinned.
