Inspired By Grey: Grey is the New White

I love me some grey!!! No no no!  Not 50 Shades of Grey! The color grey is the new white! OK, OK, I did just recently post about how fabulous white is, but grey moves me.   If I am out and about shopping, I am inspired by grey, the color scale.  It’s so modern and sophisticated and you can combine it with practically any color, bright or muted.  Grey may seem dull and gloomy at first however if you mix interesting textures and patterns, decorating in grey can be quite chic. It’s far from boring as one might initially think.

This is my inspiration board, Inspired by Grey.  I was originally drawn to this beautiful and affordable grey laminate flooring.  This photo set the tone to this post.  The seating shown is tufted, the chairs, the sofa, and the ottoman.  They are all three classic pieces with a modern twist, and all three very charming.  I chose to mix in a floral pattern with the pillows and area rug… girly but strong.

Grey in Your Lighting

The lighting is my absolute favorite.  I love the hidden gem behind the metal shield.  It has a luxurious yet industrial feel which I am absolutely enamored with.  This pendant I would like to have in my entryway.  The first piece you see when you are greeted at the door. I always thought that this would make a great DIY project.  You can create your own version with an inexpensive chandelier, a flea market basket or bird cage, and a lighting kit from a hardware store.  Viola! Mixing and layering metals; chrome, silver, and the like will add interest and depth… oh yeah, and pizazz!

See? I told you grey wasn’t boring and gloomy!  On the contrary, it’s lovely, chic, and if designed correctly can be quite stunning in any room. Far from dreary, utilizing grey is a great design option.
