DIY Yarn Tassels Tutorial
How to Make DIY Yarn TasselsÂ
My brother designed some adorable free printable coloring bookmarks for Inheriting Our Planet and I wanted to make little DIY Yarn Tassels for them. I thought they would make great back to school gifts for teachers or a Teacher Appreciation gift as well. I had never made them before and found they are extremely easy to make. You only need three things.
Materials:
Small bonbons of yarn like these are perfect for this project. I have a stocked jar in my craftroom at all times!
I used a plastic Tic Tac container to wrap the yarn around. Wrap it several times. Depending on the desired length, you can also use your fingers, the narrow part of your cell phone, a business card, or the like.
Remove the yarn bundle you just wrapped and snip one end of the yarn as shown.
I slipped a long piece of yarn through the folded end and then tied off the top. This will be the hanger of the tassel. Wrap the yarn around to make a head and double knot it.
If desired, trim the tassel for a more finished look.
I made them in several colors.
I also tied some to the coloring bookmarks that my brother designed. These are great because you can create your own design in any color you wish.
See some examples and print them in three different designs for free here: {Free Printable Coloring Bookmarks}. You can use tassels for party decorations, ornaments, pillow embellishments, jewelry, and so much more.
