Easy Upcycled Cake Platter
Thrift Store Makeover: Easy Upcycled Cake Platter
Once again I am on a roll with the thrift store finds! This time I found a cake platter with a wooden base and glass top. I have done some recent similar upcycled projects just by painting wood. I think white mixed with the natural wood makes ordinary household look more modern.
Here is a $5 serving bowl I hand painted with white and added a gold trim.
Here’s another wooden set of bowls I painted, leaving the inside natural. I bought this entire set for $6.00.
I decided to do it again with this cake platter I got from Salvation Army for…wait for it…$2.00!!!!! What??? This was a REALLY good find. Here is the cake platter BEFORE.
I only used three things to complete this project:
I simply used painter’s tape around the edges.
Next I used a craft paint that is good for wood. It is also dishwasher safe once the paint cures (approximately 21 days). I left the top wood, because I wanted to make sure it stayed food safe.
Here is an AFTER photo.
This literally took me minutes to do. I ended up painting on two light coats. It was very simple and I think it change the whole look of the platter. It’s amazing what a little bit of white paint will do. I thought about etching the glass dome as well but I’m unsure what I want on it still. Any ideas???
I just love your wood redos! The white add a great pop of color
Thanks, Loren! It’s so easy!
Maybe a little design the same as the dozily or a part of grace ie “Thank you for the ‘gifts'(but maybe say ‘treats’)) we are about to receive.
Great idea, Jolien!
Now this definitely takes the cake!
Ha!!! Thanks, Joni!
