First Birthday DIY Cake Toppers

I can’t believe my baby girl is one today! We had a last-minute celebration this weekend. So, unlike my oldest daughter’s first birthday, I whipped up some decorations just a few days before.  My friends said I shouldn’t feel guilty because that what comes with kiddo number two. Despite my procrastination, we had an amazing time. One of the things I made were these first birthday DIY cake toppers.

Time: 30 Minutes

Instructions:

I used four different type of ribbon. One was thick so I cut it into thinner strips.  Cut the ribbon in 3” long strips.  I ended up using about 40 pieces for this bunting. Cut a 16” piece of twine.  One by one, take the first strip and fold in half creating a loop. Bring the loop of the ribbon up and over the inside of the twine. With the loop still above the twine, grab both of the bottom ends of the ribbon and pull the ends through the loop. Pull tight to create a knot around the top. Repeat with the remaining pieces of ribbon, alternating colors. It is easiest to start in the center of the twine; however knots can easily be slid up and down the twine for adjustments.

Tie the twine to wooden skewers. Use a small drop of hot glue on the skewer to keep the twine knot in place.

To make the ONE, I happen to have glittered gold cardboard sticker letters. If you do not have those you can always find lettering online, trace, cut out, and glitter.  Using hot glue, I glued a toothpick onto the back of the letter leaving enough room on the toothpick to stick inside the cake.

Here are a couple pictures.
