How NOT To Make Slime

An UN-Tutorial from a Frustrated Mom Who Does NOT Know How to Make Slime

So, you may have read my blog post on Everything You Need to Know About How to Make Slime. This isn’t anything like that.

A couple weeks ago, I attended an amazing blog conference called AdThrive Accelerate Summit. There were different tracks, or areas of focus, that you could choose to up your blogging game so to speak.  I chose the video track. Even though I have experience doing video, I wanted to learn more because a Cisco study indicated that:

• By 2019, 80% of internet will be video in the US
• By 2019, 85% of the internet will be video in the world

As you can see by my blog I do a ton of video, but as a work from home busy mom, I have a simple quick style that needs improvement.

For example, this is a video I did over a year ago on how to cover fabric switch plates.

It’s a classic overhead view of my hands in time lapse. Good, but in my opinion needs improvement.

This how to make slime video was a project that we shot in class in groups of four. We shared our ideas, shot different angles, did many takes, and then shared all the video clips.  Now, it was up to each group member to create their own version of a video using their own music and video editing software of choice.

A couple things to note:

• We worked in a poorly lit conference room on a table provided.
• We were limited to the items we could use in the video.
• Sixty minutes was our time limit to come up with the idea and shoot any video to convey that idea.
• I edited this from Movie Maker, a free program

This one is mine. Here goes…

I hope?

Our mom (played by yours truly) was supposed to be annoyed that her child asked her to make slime. She buys all the ingredients…

• Saline Solution
• Glue
• Food Coloring
• Baking Soda

… and dumps it in a big mess of frustration. After being unsuccessful, she response back to her child’s note with a “no” and offers candy instead. Hopefully in came across funny and relatable. If not, back to the drawing board. Ha!

What I Learned

Although this wasn’t a traditional tutorial or how-to video that I normally shoot, I learned I can be more creative with angles and to exude more emotion through music and thinking outside my traditional overhead hand shots.
