Iron-On Rapunzel Sun Bunting with Printables
There is probably an easier way to do this, but when I decided to make these 1) I had a particular style of sun in mind and 2) I wanted to be inexpensive to make. I was originally going to try my Silhouette Cameo however I read that it may or may not cut felt, SO this is what I ended up doing instead. Here is how to make a Rapunzel sun bunting for a birthday party decoration.
Materials:
- Free Sun Printable 2.5”
- Free Sun Printable 5”
- White felt
- Purple felt
- Iron-On transfer paper
- Iron
- Pillowcase
- Fabric Glue
- Hot glue and glue gun
- Twine
- Ruler
- Pencil
I decided to make two different flags; a flag bunting and hanging flags. First, print out the desired printables on iron-on transfer paper. For the 2.5” suns, I just trimmed the sheet and iron on the whole thing and for the 5” suns I trimmed close to the edges.
Lay a freshly ironed pillow case on a hard service, not an ironing board. I used my granite counter tops in the kitchen. Next, lay the white felt on top and then the printables faced down. Set the iron to the cotton setting and be sure to turn off the steam.
Apply pressure with the iron and iron for approximately 20 seconds pressing firmly.
Allow the suns to cool and then peel off the paper. Cut out each sun close to the edges. I left a white boarder.
I cut one 12”X18” piece of purple felt into 8 equal pieces and then trimmed them as shown to make the bunting.
Glue the suns on with fabric glue.
For the larger flags, I scored and found these pre-made purple flags on sale for $1.99 each from $7.99. I glued the 5” suns on them.
For the bunting, I hot glued twine on the back top. Here are some after photos.
