Three Reasons Why I Love Income Property

House for Sale

Have you seen the show Income Property with Scott McGillivray? Scott shows how to create rental suites in their home, as a way to generate additional revenue, I’m sure they use someone similar to sunriver long term property management afterward to manage the property. In each episode, he presents his client with two design options. After they pick the one that meets their needs, the host and his team of contractors renovate the space, with the meticulous McGillivray overseeing a sleek and cost-effective makeover. I am obsessed with this show for so many reasons, but first and foremost, I know the importance of using real estate as leverage to generate cash flow. I think part of my passion for DIY stems from 3 things that you may not know about me: 1) being a former real estate broker, 2) being a landlord, and 3) working from home. So when I watch shows like this I can’t help get excited! So, here are three reasons why I love Income Property, the show, and “income property” in general!

I Believe in Taking Advantage of the Market

My husband and I aren’t your typical homebuyers. We purchased our home together in 2012, and today it’s time to reap the benefits of the market and sell our house and buy a new one. Since 2012 we have remodeled the patio, redid the floors, made over the balcony, and painted the interior and exterior of the house. Sure, there is a little bit of emotion attached (we are human), but I believe I can make any house a home, especially since I love the DIY aspect so much. We recently listed our house to find our next dream home. It’s time to move on, and take advantage of what we have gained over the last four years. Here is the before and after of the front and back of our home and a few other renovations we did.

For Me, Becoming a Landlord was a Dream Come True

I was a landlord before I met my husband, and he happened to be one too. Owning multiple properties has always been a part of my vision board. Now together, we are a force that has experience with real estate, property management, and home renovations and are constantly brainstorming how real estate can help grow our wealth and secure a financial future for our family. We have been fortunate to have fantastic tenants without any problems we couldn’t handle.

Working from Home is Key

I have been self-employed for about 9 years. Because I work from home, I save money by omitting office rental costs. I have created an inspirational crafting space that happens to double as my sanctuary. I am able to take advantage of tax write-offs for certain parts of my home business. This is my home office before and after!
