As you know, I love to repurpose and upcycle thing to make them more useful and beautiful. A part of that passion for me comes from an eco-conscious effort. I feel that if I can reuse something, it’s one less item that goes to the landfill.

Today I want to share a few upcycling ideas for the laundry room as well as share the #QuickColdPledge with Tide at Walmart. This exciting, national effort by Tide is encouraging as many people as possible to switch their washing machine cycles to quick and cold. Doing this will save time, money and lighten the environmental impact: a triple win!

Trash to Treasure Laundry Room Ideas

These 5 trash to treasure DIY ideas all start with a trip to the thrift store. There, look for things like:

  • Glass vases, jars, and canisters
  • Flooring planks
  • Metal and wood containers
  • Old signs

1. I stenciled a small metal trash can with some adhesive stencils and acrylic craft paint. In a few minutes I had a custom trash and lint holder to place on a shelf above my washer and dryer for easy access to the lint tray.

2. Glass containers of any sort like canisters, mason jars, apothecary jars are great for holding Tide PODS, clothes pins, and fabric softener.

3. If you’d like, take the extra DIY step and used stencils and glass etching cream to stencil words like “wash”, “dry”, or “clean” on the container.

4. DIY signs are also a great addition to any laundry room. I made this one out of an old thrift store sign that I painted over. It says, “.50 cents laundry wash dry fold”.

5. I made these two signs out of old flooring planks and 3-inch stencils. I used some sand paper to give them a distressed look. They look great on my laundry room shelves.

Now that you have a few DIY ideas to give your laundry room a mini makeover, let’s talk about taking the #QuickColdPledge!
