We recently took a trip to the La Habra Children’s Museum and had such a great time. I had never been to a children’s museum before and this particular one was a great first experience. One of the exhibits was my favorite. It had some great facts for teaching kids about Water Conservation Around the House. I wanted to share those with you today. These are things we implement in our home, all of which not only save water, but money as well.
Here are 4 tips to follow in your home:
Tip #1: Washing Dishes
Washing dishes by hand uses 30 gallons of water. Running a full dishwasher uses only 10 gallons for the same amount of clean dishes.
Tip #2: Using the Toilet
Standard toilet tanks use 5 gallons of water per flush. Switching to a 1.6 gallon tank will save an average of 14 gallons of water per day.
Tip #3: Taking a Shower
Normal shower nozzles spray 5 gallons of water each minute. Changing to a low-flow nozzle can save 17 gallons of water in a five minute shower.
Tip #4: Brushing Teeth
Leaving the water running while you brush your teeth wastes about 10 gallons of water. Try using a cup for water instead and you will save more than 19 gallons of water each day.
I hope to share more of what we learned at the museum. They have several great exhibits including but not limited to a nature walk, model train village, family art room, science station, and kids on stage.
